When Penny Ericson’s husband Simon was going through chemotherapy, she wanted to find the best way to help him through this often draining and debilitating treatment. She devised recipes that would help restore his taste and enjoyment of food and keep him as well as possible during his treatment and ultimate recovery.
Penny used her skills and background in catering and restaurants to create original, specially formulated recipes to help counteract loss of taste and appetite and other side-effects of treatment. After four years, Simon is now recovering and the couple have embarked on a mission to help others going through a similar experience with:
- gorgeous illustrations and delicious recipes – the emphasis of the book is on the pleasure and joy of food rather than the restrictions of a special diet book
- unique ‘thumbs-up’ nutritional analysis for every recipe and information written and supported by one of the UK’s top registered cancer research dieticians, Barbara Parry MSc RD, this book provides a fun and appealing way to find out more about preparing food and getting practical help whilst going through treatment or caring for someone who is
- ingredients selected for their cancer-fighting properties. The recipes are based on the need for patients to eat little and often and cover the full range of culinary skill and preferences.
Intended to lift your spirits, Chemo Cookery Club is designed to make everyday food a positive part of life for both cancer sufferers and their carers. When life is turned upside down, what we eat and how we approach it is one of the few things that we still have in our control, and a supportive diet is even more important to stay healthy and strong.
